The Operatic
ballet circus
Strobe lights
Bring
The stage
Into view
It separates
Into two
A dome
And partitions
Down from
The ceiling
Comes a globe
That glows
And glistens
Then comes
A parade
And a troupe
Of actors
Wearing black
And white shades
Their style
Is pure elegance
Like the French
Particularly
Those Parisians
The mood
Is most
Magnificent
A period of silence
Lets the
Emotional vibe
Linger
During which
I sit
Passively
In thought
Like Rodin’s
‘Thinker’
The waiter
Comes
For my order
I purchase steak
From the
Bovine creature
Plus some rose
Wine drink
After that
A scotch
And a gin
Now it
Properly begins
I’m enraptured
In awe
From my
Viewing seat
In front
The sweetest
Jubilance
Is what my
Whole heart feels
When I see them
Do these stunts
Like twisting rolls
Cartwheels
Forward tumbles
To the floor
Audience rumbles
With applause
Shooting out
Of canons
Lit by
Gunpowder
And matchsticks
She, pushing
From her
Two feet
Jumps
And backflips
Somehow
The other one’s
There to catch
The next act is
Wizardry
The classics
Like pulling
The hare
Out of the
Hat trick
It’s all
Very loud
And so dramatic
The atmosphere
Created
Is an abundance
Of pleasing fun
Even though
It’s tantamount
To madness
The scene
We’re seeing
Soon is done
On the stage
It’s becoming
Morning now
The performers
Build a tower
In fast
Quick motions
To reach
The bright
Behemoth
The expanding
Blooming sun
In 360 degrees
It moves
It’s spun
Blazing
With heat
With luminance
In the
Background
Singers
A group
Of musicians
Harmonise
A mild melody
A beat
A soothing hum
That progresses
Incrementally
Then using
Instruments
A flute
Bassoons
And big, bold
Powerful
Booming drums
The human
Tower falls
Into a net
Of elastic
Resembling
A vast
Expanse
Of ocean
With splashes
Drips
The cast
Is coated
In the corner
On an arch
A black witch
Poses
With her pot of
Smouldering
Magic potions
Now
I don’t want
This review
To be cluttered
With boring talk
So to cut
A long story short
The end scene
Depicts
Royal soldiers
Who wave
Flags forward
To the audience
From a raised
Platform
After
It’s finished
And they have
Drawn
The curtains
I conclude that
What I’ve seen
Today is so
Strange
Abnormal
If other critics
Say the
Play’s bad
They must
At least admit
It wasn’t
Tame at all!
It’ll divide
Opinion
And may
Spark war
Bringing
A dispute
For some
Anyway, alas
The performance
That’s been
So unique
Is done!
