The Lord of the rings
How did we travel so far, bare-footed
And able to dodge snares put in our way?
In a world of evil
You look for anywhere there’s goodness
If perchance it shows
The reader follows
Wherever the protagonist goes
That’s I, Frodo, clad with cloak
Puffing out my chest and acting bold
On a quest I had to go
From my happy home
Up to high hills
Then through valleys - low
To hide, we nestled in cracks
And massive holes, of chasms
In the deadly throes
Where souls and phantoms
Roam at random
We hid to be protected
From the black, scattering smoke
Of the reptilian baddies
Foes - the dragons
Who gladly blow torrents of fire
Gathering trolls
Commence war on The Shire
Gandalf the Grey
With magic, gropes
And grabs the wand, or the staff
On our behalf
He defends us
Against the approaching monster
Who comes after us with rabid rage
Below us is the abyss, ablaze
It’s crucial that we ought
Not to falter at this stage
“You shall not pass!” he says
But alas, he’s slayed
And the fact it’s fate
That he had to suffer the fall
He falls, and we gasp
But we keep on with the task
We continue roaming, yonder
While our enemies come close
They’re honing on us
The Fellowship
Of each other we’re growing fonder
Forming the closest bonds
To remain unbroken
The drama
Constantly unfolding, onwards
Sometimes
When I happen to be alone, I wonder
With a tone that’s sombre
Will this ring be the death of me?
Is all this suffering to be my destiny?
The sword, from Aragon, is cutting deep
He’s saying, “Run!” but I’m sorely struggling
To outpace the hooves of horses, strongly rushing
Advancing, causing nothing but horror, fear
Boromir! Sorrow, sheer tragedy
The path to Gondor’s near
But I’m finding it hard to follow
Need to form a clear strategy
The darkest things are coming
Here, after me
To try to catch the ring
I have to bring, this saga to an end
Thank you, Sam, for being my friend
Together we’ve been on this path
I just hope we won’t ever have
To go through this sadness and tears, again
The end
