Ingerland

We witness time

Pass and fade

We know

It's yet

To reach

Its climactic

Stage

As a creative

Practitioner

My task

In this world

Is perhaps

One that

Concerns

The fine arts

Be it songs

Words

Or an image

The work

I was put

On Earth

To finish

And for this

Particular piece

I pay homage

To the English

The English

Empire

Has decayed

But alas

I wish to speak

Of its fantastic

Greatness

In times past

Taking

Inhabitants

Of foreign lands

As captive slaves

Through them

We made

Pretty

Civilisation

Out of

Wild savages

They say

England

Is past

Its prime

And there are

The ignorant

Who say

We live like

They did

In King

Arthur’s time

Even though

It’s a legend

A myth

Some say

We’re similar

To our

Terrible twin

Our little

American sister

Whose flag

Is the stars

And stripes

You could say

Ours is

Vehicular

Cause

It’s similar

To the

Ambulance sign

A red cross

And in

The corners

A dash of white

No

Competition

Is on par

When it

Comes to war

Resolving

Differences

With combat

And strife

The civilians

Enlisted

In our army

Respond with

Such quickness

When called to

Stand and fight

These men

Who saw

The horrors

Of war

Were

Imprinted

With a scar

For life

The English

We are

The lions

They say

Our wittiness

Is sharp

As knives

Hughes

Wordsworth

Pinter

Constable

Turner

Whistler

Though

The latter

Wasn’t an

English fella

But one can say

The prettiness

In his art

Suffices

As being

English itself

For he owes

Much

To our weather

The mist

And fog

The constant

Drops of rain

Through us

He cultivated

The sense of

Atmosphere

Enveloped in

His pictures

From Yorkshire

To Devonshire

We’ve got

Splendour

And elegant

Vistas

Newton’s

Principia

Mathematica

Rutherford

Faraday, Lister

Churchill’s

Triumph

Over the

Germans

And Hitler

The Gutenberg

Press

The spreading

Of literature

The first

And second

Elizabeths

All the Edwards

And Williams

King Henry’s

Decision

To cause

Eternal division

Between

Church

And state

A move that

would

Forever

Reverberate

Among

The nations

England is

Still a country

Of merit

Distinction

But all

We hold dear

Our democracy

And liberal

System

Is on

The brink

And edge of

Extinction

Not least

From

Certain

Fanatics

Who hold to

The tenets

Of Islam

This land was

Once indebted

To Christian

Values

Now it’s

Fighting a battle

That for once

It won’t be

Remembered

For winning
