When the Clocks

Go Back

When the

Clocks go back

Step into

The morning fog

For a walk, stroll

Through unexplored

Unknown paths

Throw the dog

A bone - catch!

Return to

The warmth

Of home

For a long

Thorough wash

Soak, bath

Heat the pot

Stove, flask

For a cup of tea

Make some

Hot toast

Toss coals

Black

Into the

Fireplace

And the chimney

Will give off

Smoke/gas

Look out of

The window

To see the frost

Snow

Cracks

In the ice

And animals

Like the fox

Stoat, rat

Coming out

Of their burrows

Risking their lives

To cross roads

Cause out of

Nowhere

A car

Could come

And if

It’s not slow - crash!

Winter’s destructive

Force grows

Has

The entire

Environment

In its taut

Hold/grasp

Down to

Its knees

It’s brought low

Bending under

The pressure

Till it falls - collapse!

When the

Clocks go back

It’s different

To the summer’s

Warm glow

When we licked

On cones

Basked

In glorious heat

Scorched

So took off clothes

Splashed

In water

But now that

Winter’s come

It’s sadness

Horror

And despair

Yes, all

Hope’s dashed

In this most

Intimidating season

When the

Clocks go back
